MEWP rental markets continued to recover strongly after the pandemic in 2021 and early 2022, despite clouds on the horizon caused by global uncertainty, according to the latest IPAF Global Powered Access Rental Market Report, compiled by Ducker.

Operators can now benefit from quality ISO-certified MEWP training in Estonia and Latvia, which join Lithuania in being able to offer courses developed by IPAF via Ramirent, which now has IPAF-certified training centres across the Baltic countries.

A new IPAF presidential team has been confirmed, with Karin Nars of Dinolift officially invested as the federation’s first woman President at its 2022 AGM, held for the first time in three years as a physical meeting following the restrictions of the pandemic.

Judges for the prestigious International Awards for Powered Access (IAPAs) have been named, as the entry deadline has been extended to 15 December. MEWP rental markets have recovered better than was predicted to be the case in 2020, with most countries seeing markets and wider economies on course to recover to 2019 levels by the end of this year or early in 2022, according to the latest IPAF report.

IPAF has seen a surge of new members, taking the total number beyond the 1,500 mark. The increase is partly owing to the powered access industry’s strong recovery after the pandemic and partly the introduction of a new Safety Professional category.

A new document has been produced by IPAF explaining what a MEWP Safe Use Program is and why users need to have one in place. The document is a guide to the requirement, part of updated ANSI A92 standards that went into effect during 2020.

Jacco de Kluijver of Terex Aerial Work Platforms (Genie) has been seconded to the board of IPAF, ahead of the federation’s AGM in London on March 10, 2022.

Information gathered in a worldwide project to report accidents and near-misses has informed a major update to IPAF’s comprehensive training course on how to load and unload MEWPs and other plant equipment safely from trucks or trailers.

Any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on “Fall Hazards” and reinforcing the importance of “Fall Prevention”.

IPAF has been made aware of a safety alert from the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regarding failure to detect mechanical failure in drive units which affects Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWPs).
