  • The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) announces an update of the ePAL app, bringing the ability to conduct, record and share pre-use checks for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). These checks play a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation of powered access equipment.

  • North America’s access and rental industry celebrated its finest on the evening of 20 November, with six winners receiving top honours at the inaugural Working at Height Conference & Awards.

  • This video shows the reconstruction of a real incident that occurred early in the morning at Horizon Platform's MEWP rental yard in March 2021, in the UK. It demonstrates how easily accidents can happen when loading or unloading Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) onto delivery vehicles.

  • As part of its Women in Powered Access initiative, IPAF has created a mentoring scheme for women in the powered access Industry who are looking for extra support and guidance to sustain and promote their career within. 

  • When a MEWP is delivered or collected from a site, loading and unloading on the public highway should be avoided wherever possible. The aim is to minimise risk to employees and members of the public by ensuring delivery vehicles park away from public highways and pavements.

  • It is with great regret that we announce the passing of John Barker, a pioneering figure in the powered access industry and the first President of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF). John passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, at the age of 88, after a battle with late-stage prostate cancer.

  • The Working at Height Conference & Awards, created and organized by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and Access, Lift & Handlers (ALH) magazine, will take place on November 20 at Music City Center in Nashville. This new event, which combines IPAF’s annual North American Innovate event and ALH’s long-standing ALH Conference & Awards, will highlight the use of aerial platforms to improve site productivity and safety.

  • 9921: What hazard can be introduced by pushing in the emergency stop?

    On some MEWPs, activating the emergency stop switch at the platform controls can affect the warnings given to the occupants of the platform.

  • 9922: Can I use the emergency stop in the MEWP platform to isolate the controls while the platform is elevated?

    The practice of using the emergency stop to isolate controls may no longer be appropriate on some MEWPs. MEWP operators should be trained and familiarised, and they should follow the MEWP manufacturer’s operating instructions as to how this should be achieved, and if it is recommended.

  • The International Awards for Powered Access 2025 (IAPAs) are now open for entries, and bookings are available for the IPAF Summit. Taking place in Dublin on March 13 2025, the IAPAs celebrate excellence in the powered access industry. The past three IAPAs (London 2022, Berlin 2023, Copenhagen 2024) were all sell-out events.
