In 2022, IPAF President Karin Nars launched the 'Women in Powered Access' initiative, inviting women of all ages and different professional roles to share their stories of inclusivity. The initiative includes a number of key actions, including providing a platform to tell the stories of women in powered access in both the media and at industry events. IPAF will also use its own print, web and social media platforms to share these inspirational case studies and will also continue to invite prominent women speakers to present at IPAF events. IPAF will share a series of case studies at  www.ipaf.org/casestudy to communicate the opportunities our industry offers women. 

What is your role in powered access? ? I’m Chief technology Officer (CTO) of Alimak Group a global leader in vertical access for the construction and industrial sector. In my role as CTO, I’m responsible for innovation, digitalisation and sustainability for Alimak Group.

How did you come into this industry and what attracted you to it? I have worked with R&D and Innovation management since I graduated with a PhD in the1990s. After having spent some 15 years in the automation and robotics industry, I was thrilled to take the opportunity of becoming the CTO of Alimak Group to be part of driving the change innovation and digital technologies can do for our sector.

What do you find inspiring about your role? It’s all about people. Working with experienced colleagues, customers and suppliers with enormous know-how – combined with new talents bringing in new perspectives and technologies. Together we can develop new solutions; improving productivity and working conditions while minimising the effect on the environment.

Where do you see yourself in five years and what do you want to achieve? In five years I would be pleased to see many of the ongoing projects we have in Alimak Group together with key customers being judged as state-of-the-art in the business. And spending more time with my grandchildren!

What one piece of advice would you give to other women in/thinking of entering the industry? First, you must believe in and have a passion for what you do. Second, make sure you have a manager who believes in you and gives you opportunities to grow. Then the sky is the limit!
