In 2022, IPAF President Karin Nars launched the 'Women in Powered Access' initiative, inviting women of all ages and different professional roles to share their stories of inclusivity. The initiative includes a number of key actions, including providing a platform to tell the stories of women in powered access in both the media and at industry events. IPAF will also use its own print, web and social media platforms to share these inspirational case studies and will also continue to invite prominent women speakers to present at IPAF events. IPAF will share a series of case studies at  www.ipaf.org/casestudy to communicate the opportunities our industry offers women. 

What is your role in powered access? My role within Nationwide Platforms is to manage the full end to end recruitment cycle for all vacancies within Head Office and the UK wide depots. Ensuring that managers have the right tools to effectively recruit talent into our business.

How did you come into this industry and what attracted you to it? I started as a temp receptionist at the Head Office in Lutterworth 15 years ago and then moved into the recruitment team as an administrator shortly after. As time went on, I became a recruiter sourcing various candidates to the many departments we have. I then began recruiting for the apprenticeship programmes that Nationwide Platforms have available. Finally becoming Resourcing Business Partner managing a small team. When I first started, I knew nothing about Powered Access but gradually I was getting to understand the various machines, how they operate, and it is exciting to see what the future of Powered Access holds making sure everyone is safe whilst working at height.

What do you find inspiring about your role? The things that inspire me about my job is that there is certainly no two days the same. It’s exciting and great to learn new things. Looking at best practices and new ways to recruit and attract talent into this industry. Anyone can work in this industry if they put their mind to it. Follow your dreams!

Where do you see yourself in five years and what do you want to achieve? I would like to think I am still here in five years that’s for sure. I want to try out new ideas and new ways of attracting both men and women into this industry. Build on our future talent to be the best of the best.

What one piece of advice would you give to other women in/thinking of entering the industry? My advice would be don’t give up, never second guess that this industry isn’t for you as it is just as much for you and the next woman that is thinking about it. Set your goals and focus on the end result and most importantly have fun along the way.
