A new EU Machinery Regulation is being introduced, which will replace the current EU Machinery Directive. It was published at the end of June, and will enter into force during July, the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has informed members, advising them to read the new directive and begin to prepare for compliance.

The new regulation was published in June and is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) as Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. It enters into force on 19 July 2023, 20 days after citation in the OJEU. Its date of application is 14 January 2027.

Brian Parker, IPAF’s Head of Safety & Technical, comments: “IPAF asks all members to note that the new regulation will come into force on 19 July. This is an important development and compliance with the new regulation will be a basic prerequisite to being able to place machinery on to the European Single Market from January 2027.

“Please familiarise yourself with the new directive; if any member has a question relating to the application of or compliance with the directive in respect of powered access, please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or one of the IPAF team.”
