This document provides guidance on how members of the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) should manage the use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) on their sites. It was first issued by the UKCG in January 2014, with input from IPAF and the Strategic Forum for Construction Plant Safety Group.

The toolkit was reviewed and updated by the UKCG MEWP Working Group in June 2015. The revised toolkit includes additional guidance around the selection of MEWPs, MEWPs for Managers requirements, ground conditions requirements and PAL / PAL+ competence.

The document covers UK-based legal compliance, procedures, statutory regulations and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance. It should be seen as a minimum standard for specifying, managing and operating MEWPs on site. Individual, specific sites may have additional or higher requirements.

IPAF welcomes the document and fully endorses it as a good guidance and "signposting" document that points operators and managers in the right direction to obtain the best and latest information for operating and managing the use of MEWPs.

NOTE: The UKCG merged with the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC) in September 2015 to form Build UK. IPAF is a member association of Build UK.
