IPAF asks members to email MPs to stop Work at Height Laws repeal
Members of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) are being urged to email their local MP to ask them to intervene to help save the UK Work at Height safety regulations, which are set to be repealed as part of a “bonfire of EU laws” by the end of this year, after IPAF’s CEO wrote to a cross-party selection of MPs on the issue.
IPAF announced at the end of 2022 that it has joined with fellow AIF members in support of the Save the Work at Height Regulations campaign. Peter Douglas, CEO & Managing Director of IPAF, has now personally written to all the MPs with constituencies close to IPAF’s Cumbria headquarters, as well as to Alison Thewliss MP, Chair of the APPG on Working at Height, to ask them to call on the Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch MP, the Secretary of State for the newly created Department for Business and Trade.
The letter calls on MPs to help secure a commitment from the Government that the Work at Height Regulations will be enshrined in UK law before being repealed under the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill. A letter was also sent to Ms Badenoch herself.
Now IPAF is asking its UK members to do likewise, offering a template letter and advising member firms to contact the MP local to their main centre or centres of operations.
Peter Douglas comments: “I have written on behalf of IPAF to a cross-party selection of around a dozen MPs highlighting this important issue and calling on them to contact the new Secretary of State for Business and Trade to secure a firm commitment from the Government that vital Work at Height Regulations will be assimilated into legislation to protect the estimated 10 million individuals who work at height in the UK.
“We are also asking our member companies in the UK to now do likewise, to further raise awareness and put collected pressure on the Government to act in the light of clear and compelling evidence that repealing the Work at Height Regulations (2005) will cost lives.”
